New York Cosmos Dominant in Home Opener

New York Cosmos Dominant in Home Opener

The New York Cosmos started their 2014 Spring season with a confident rout of the Atlanta Silverbacks, as the reigning NASL champions showed an impressive ability to maintain the steady momentum they have built since their improbable success last year. The Fall of 2013 was like a fairy tale for the re-booted franchise, from the inaugural match to the championship game in Atlanta. While the sheer wattage of such NASL legends like Pele, Shep Messing and Carlos Alberto might have accounted for some of the team’s initial success, it was the combination of veteran talent, hungry new players and an excellent stewardship by coach Giovanni Savarese that brought New York the trophy. Along the way fans were treated to one of the best family-friendly options in the metro area. Ticket prices for games... »

Justified Season Finale – The Table Is Now Set

Justified Season Finale – The Table Is Now Set

Justified ended its 5th season with an enjoyable bang, neatly tying up most of the plotlines from this season and more importantly, setting the stage for some spectacular conflict next year. Raylan’s mojo, curiously missing from most of the 13 episode run, seems to have returned with a vengeance as he regained the form that has made him so effective since his transfer back home to Kentucky several years ago. FX’s crime-drama has been remarkably consistent since it began its run in 2010, and although season 5 was probably the weakest one so far, the show is still better than most of what television currently has to offer. Last week saw US Marshal Raylan Givens taking a huge gamble by convincing the powers that be to charge young Kendal Crowe as an adult for his “confessed” shooting of Chief... »

Scandal: How To Track A Terrorist

Scandal: How To Track A Terrorist

Shit is just getting weird. Like will Fitz and Olivia ever get over themselves and just make things simple for us? Will any of Olivia’s relationships ever be simple? Will Quinn come back to the Gladiators as she continues to realize she can’t turn on them? Knowing the answers to these questions, we just continue to let the drama unfold. Weird shit that goes down: –Abby acts as Liv in the White House and no one takes her seriously – even in her expensive white pea coat. –Jake shows up to Olivia’s acting like a drunk degenerate –Fitz is real pissed and jealous about Mellie, and my heart breaks for Liv –Mama Pope has a male visitor who ends up bringing her roses and a homemade bomb –Olivia and Eli attempt to work together to take down B613 #fambonding ̵... »

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Marvel continues its dominant run with yet another solidly entertaining entry in the meticulously planned universe it has created and nourished. Captain America – The Winter Soldier is a superhero movie that plays out in the framework of a spy film, with deep-cover operatives, mercurial political objectives and more than a few twists along the way. To be sure, it has the big-budget action set-pieces fans have come to expect, but they are impressively strung together by well-written scenes providing character development, introspection and even some real world morality debates. With clunky origin stories out of the way, superhero sequels are blessed with the freedom to jump right into their main storylines, confident that viewers have all the background they need to simply sit back and enjo... »

Justified – Raylan’s Gamble

Justified – Raylan’s Gamble

Justified’s uneven season continued last night as the momentum that had been slowly building up the last few weeks fizzled out into a fairly disjointed penultimate episode. The rollercoaster ride continues for loyal fans who simply haven’t been treated to the consistently entertaining narratives that they’ve come to expect from the FX series. Even a stellar finale next week probably won’t be enough to properly salvage what has been a sub-par season, but like an outmatched brawler in a boxing ring, a strong finish would at least leave fans with a favorable impression. At a minimum, this season’s storyline should be settled enough so that next year can start fresh and hopefully engage audiences on a level that they became accustomed to for the first four years. Last week’s excellent offering... »

End of an Era: HIMYM Finale

End of an Era: HIMYM Finale

A full day has passed and I’m still unsure how to feel. I was so hyped up prior to the finale, specifically by this E! news article. All I wanted to do was put up an intervention sign (check), play “Let’s go to the mall” on repeat (check), have sandwiches (settled for wine), and serve cheese as my guests arrived (too much effort). I waited and waited to cry, as I expected nothing short of a tear jerker, and instead I just feel conflicted. After all, the show is called HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER — not how your mother died and I ended up with Aunt Robin (I don’t even feel this was left up for interpretation) #bitter. We start out back in ’05 when the gang first met Robin – should have been enough hints here that this would be the premeditated ending... »
