Cosmos Stun Red Bulls in Crosstown Clash

Cosmos Stun Red Bulls in Crosstown Clash

Saturday night at Hofstra’s Shuart Stadium on Long Island was a compelling example of all that the North American Soccer League can be as the New York Cosmos defeated their Major League Soccer cross-town rivals in a thrilling match played out in front of a packed house. The US Open Lamar Hunt tournament held its 4th round of play as the New York Red Bulls travelled all the way from New Jersey to be thoroughly trounced by the home team. The 3-0 drubbing was as decisive a win as the Cosmos have had all year, and although they finished a disappointing second in their own league, their hopes for bringing home the US Open trophy are very much alive. You have to hand it to the Cosmos organization. After advancing from the 3rd round of the tournament by beating the Brooklyn Italians, they were fo... »

Hey Giorgio! – Cosmos Now Set For Major Challenge

Hey Giorgio! – Cosmos Now Set For Major Challenge

The New York Cosmos knew going into last night’s match that the game itself was essentially meaningless. Minnesota United had won their match the evening before and clinched the NASL Spring Season title. But the home team seemed to find motivation in two distinct factors and managed to defeat the surprisingly tough Ottawa Fury by a score of 1-0. On a beautiful late-afternoon at Hofstra’s Shuart Stadium, the Cosmos hosted Giorgio Chinaglia Night and retired the famed Italian striker’s jersey in a pre-game ceremony attended by his family. Chinaglia was an integral part of the legendary Cosmos teams of the late 70’s – early 80’s and remains the team’s leading scorer. He passed away in 2012 before the re-booted incarnation of the team took the pitch for the first time and surely would ha... »

Bach Recaps Are Back… Y’all Ready For This?

Bach Recaps Are Back… Y’all Ready For This?

Previously on The Bachelorette… Welcome back bitches. After a brief hiatus, I decided I couldn’t stay away and needed “y’all” (as Andi would say) to hear my piece of mind on this shit show. So a few weeks in and I have to say it took up until this point for me to fully commit because Juan Pablo just ruined everything. But, we’ve put that in the past and now it’s time to focus on Andi and her journey. Bare with me as I get back into my groove… I have to say, ABC did a FABULOUS job picking the cream of the crop – I mean, almost every single one of these guys is a looker… And someone I would potentially consider stalking if voted off. Not to be shallow or anything but, let’s be real, this is the basis of “The BachelorR... »

Exciting Times For The New York Cosmos

Exciting Times For The New York Cosmos

These are exciting times for the New York Cosmos. While they are currently locked in a fierce battle within their own NASL, they are also competing in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, a chance to test their skills against professional soccer teams from MLS and some well-regarded club teams. The Cosmos have been somewhat inconsistent in league play this season, but in some ways that has only added to the excitement they are bringing to the pitch on a weekly basis. All this means for a potentially nail-biting month of June as the home team vies for a repeat league championship as well as continued survival in the Cup tournament. After a spectacular performance against the Atlanta Silverbacks in the Spring Season’s opening match in which the Cosmos scored 4 unanswered goals, the re-booted franchis... »

Spider-Man 2 – The Amazing Cry-Baby

Spider-Man 2 – The Amazing Cry-Baby

I lost track of the number of times Andrew Garfield bawled his eyes out during Amazing Spider-Man 2, and believe me, I was actually counting. To be sure, Peter Parker has always been one of the most angst-ridden heroes in the world of comics, but this film sometimes makes Terms of Endearment look like an Adam Sandler movie. Was our favorite science geek bitten by not only a radioactive spider but a sad radioactive spider at that? I get it – he’s a teenager with raging hormones dealing with love and loss – but there’s got to be some kind of medication for this kid. I have no problem with superhero movies departing from the normal confines of the traditional genre and giving viewers much more than just special-effects driven action, but let’s not forget the real reason fans flock to films li... »

Cosmos Suffer First Home Loss Since Franchise Re-Boot

Cosmos Suffer First Home Loss Since Franchise Re-Boot

The New York Cosmos suffered their first ever home loss this past Saturday night as the visiting San Antonio Scorpions edged out the reigning NASL champs by a score of 1-0. It was inevitable that the Cosmos streak would end eventually, but the home team had rallied in the past for so many come-from-behind victories that the inclement weather-reduced crowd held out hope until the final whistle. It wasn’t exactly a lack of effort on the part of the New York team, they outshot the visitors by a fairly wide margin, but they just didn’t seem prepared for the physical game brought by San Antonio. Coach Giovanni Savarese has time to make the proper adjustments but the Cosmos would do well to not look past this Saturday night’s match at the 1-1-1 Carolina Railhawks before getting their offense rol... »
